Your licensing sequence

  1. 01

Confirm eligibility and choose an approved school

Confirm that you are at least 18 and hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Select a provider shown as approved for Indiana broker prelicensing education before paying tuition.

  2. 02

Complete all 90 hours of prelicensing education

Finish the approved course and required topics. Keep your completion certificate and note its completion date because the examination window runs from that date.

  3. 03

    Pass the provider's course examination

Indiana's current education rules require a course test and a score of at least 75% for course credit. Follow the approved provider's identity, timing, and retake procedures.

  4. 04

Create a Pearson VUE account and schedule

Register using your legal name exactly as shown on your current government-issued ID. Select the Indiana Real Estate Broker exam, choose a test center, and pay the $55 fee. Walk-ins are not available.

  5. 05

Pass the national and Indiana exam portions

The current broker exam lists 145 total questions, 240 minutes of seat time, and a scaled passing score of 75. Both portions must be passed within one year after completing the 90-hour course. Keep the official score report.

  6. 06

Interview brokerages and choose your status

Compare training, supervision, technology, fees, commission structure, leads, culture, insurance, and growth. An Active or Referral license application must identify a broker company or eligible sole-proprietor managing broker, and the proposed employer must approve it.

  7. 07

    Prepare the application file

Gather the course certificate, Pearson VUE score report, legal-name-change documents if applicable, verification of other professional licenses, and complete explanations and court records for any required positive response.

  8. 08

    Apply through MyLicense One

Submit the Indiana broker application, pay the $60 state fee plus any online processing fee, select the intended status, and monitor the account for employer approval or PLA requests. Do not practice until the license is issued in a status that permits the activity.

  9. 09

    Complete the new-broker education cycle

After issuance, complete 30 hours of Commission-approved postlicensing education within the first two years. Preserve certificates and follow the annual CE and three-year renewal schedule shown below.

After your license is issued

Stay active, educated, and renewal-ready

01

First two years: 30-hour postlicensing

A broker licensed after June 30, 2014 must complete 30 hours of approved postlicensing education during the first two years after issuance. The postlicensing course satisfies the otherwise-required CE for two continuing-education years under the current rule.

02

Ongoing education: 12 hours each CE year

Active and Unassigned brokers currently complete 12 hours each July 1–June 30 CE year. Inactive and Referral statuses are treated differently under current PLA guidance, so verify status before relying on an exemption.

03

Renewal: every three years

The current PLA fee schedule lists broker renewal at $60 and states that renewals are due every three years. Keep certificates even when they are not uploaded during routine renewal because the Commission conducts audits.

04

Managing-broker path

Current PLA guidance lists three years holding an active Indiana broker license, a 24-hour managing-broker course, and the required Pearson VUE examination. A broker who functions as a managing broker for any part of a CE year currently devotes four of the twelve annual CE hours to managing-broker content.

Straight answers

Indiana licensing FAQs

Is the entry-level Indiana license called salesperson or broker?

Indiana issues the entry-level real estate license as a broker license. A managing broker is a separate eligibility and designation path.

Is PSI still the Indiana exam provider?

No. Indiana real estate examinations scheduled for March 3, 2025 and later are administered by Pearson VUE. Use the current Pearson page and handbook.

How long and how large is the current broker exam?

The current Pearson VUE handbook lists 145 total questions, 240 minutes of seat time, a scaled passing score of 75, and a $55 fee.

Do I automatically need fingerprints or a background-check appointment?

The current PLA broker application checklist requires truthful criminal-history and discipline responses plus supporting documents when applicable, but it does not list routine fingerprints as a standard broker application step. Follow any case-specific PLA instruction.

Do I need a brokerage before I apply?

If you want the license issued in Active or Referral status, the application must include the broker company or eligible sole-proprietor managing broker, and that proposed employer must approve the request. Status affects whether you may practice.

Does PASS FIRST replace the approved 90-hour course?

Not currently. PASS FIRST is the academy's exam-preparation and mastery system. Students must separately complete an Indiana-approved 90-hour prelicensing course until NDavis Academy has and displays its own required approval.
